The Wisconsin Backgammon Championships is again using a tiered entry fee structure in the Open and Intermediate Divisions. (Those who have played the Carolina Invitational will have experience with a similar system.) The goal of this entry fee structure is to provide affordable options for those concerned about the costs of playing in tournaments, while allowing those who want to play for more money a chance to do so as well. It also allows players thinking of moving up to Open to do so without substantial additional costs.
All players must pay the Entry Fee to play in the main event. These entry fees are about half of what is typical for events on the American Backgammon Tour (ABT). At least five players in the Open and Intermediate divisions will win a cash prize; depending on the number of participants, the number will likely be greater. The number of players cashing in the Novice Division will be determined by the number of players. Your eligibility for prize money from the Entry Fee is not affected by your decision as to whether to get into other pools, but the Equity Pool and Side Pool provide chances to win more money.
Players in the Open and Intermediate Divisions may additionally enter the optional Equity Pool. Entering the Equity Pool will bring your total cost to levels typically seen in entry fees at ABT events. The Equity Pool will pay the same places as the Entry Fee. For example, if we are paying 1st, 2nd, 1st Consolation, 2nd Consolation, and 1st Last Chance, the Equity Pool will pay those places as well. If one or more players who win a prize did not enter the Equity Pool, the prize money of cashing players in the pool will be increased proportionally.
Finally, players who are in the Equity Pool may additionally enter the optional Side Pool. As with most ABT events, this will pay one or two places depending on how many players are in the Side Pool.

All entry fees and pools in all three main event divisions are 100% return!
